BAGLUNG: Seventy enterprises involved in poultry and animal husbandry in Baglung district have been shortlisted for government grants under the small scale trade promotion campaign.

The Baglung Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Services Center of Expertise, with the help of the Gandaki Provincial Government, launched the small business promotion campaign.

The selected companies will each receive a grant of Rs 150,000. To be eligible for the program, each farmer must raise 250 local chickens, 500 laying hens and 1,000 broilers.

Similarly, farms with 15 adult goats, 5 adult pigs and 10 pigs reared for meat will be able to benefit from the scheme. Fifty percent of the grant will be awarded to the 70 companies selected from a total of 269 applications, said Keshab Poudel, head of animal health at the Center.

The campaign was implemented in Rayadanda in Baglung-11 Municipality, Nisigaun in Nisikhola Rural Municipality and Lekhani in Kathekhola Rural Municipality, a livestock pocket area.

“We have reached out to farmers on their doorstep with a regular but different agricultural program. We have developed a program according to the demand of the farmers,” he said.

A buffalo development program has also been initiated at Pala in the Rural Municipality of Kathekola. Similarly, an incentive of Rs 10,000 has been given to farmers who have reared cow and buffalo calves born through artificial insemination for one year. (RSS)
