LAWTON, Oklahoma (KSWO) – Billingsley Ford in Lawton is working to make sure animals in animal rescues receive goodies this holiday season.
They’re fundraising for seven different animal rescues in southwest Oklahoma to help them meet their needs this time of year.
Usually Billingsley would collect physical donations to distribute, but now monetary donations are preferred as it allows rescues to use the money as they see fit.
Marketing director Janie Billingsley said rescues value money more.
“Because some have vet bills to pay and they also feed special food during rescues. When we bring in a lot of different foods, it can cause digestive issues with these animals and that creates something else that rescues have to deal with, ”Billingsley said.
Their goal has been set at $ 2,500, and every dollar raised will be matched by the dealer.
“We would love to exceed the target, every dollar counts. We have seven rescues that we distribute to, and they all have high demands, especially right now. Every dollar will help them, they are so grateful, ”Billingsley said.
Lawton Animal Welfare and Lawton Humane Society are two of the seven rescues that will receive donations. Officials at both said Billingsley’s efforts help keep their mission alive each year.
“We are extremely grateful because this year has been a difficult year for everyone. Especially the animals. Money helps us buy the things we need, ”said Lawton Humane Society vice-president Donna Campos-Barahona.
“We never know what we’re going to have through the door. That a citizen brings it or that the social workers collect them on the road. We never know what we’re going to have, ”said Roy Rodrick, Lawton Animal Welfare Field Supervisor.
If you are interested in donating, there is a GoFundMe set up called Christmas for animal shelters in southwestern Oklahoma.
Checks can also be deposited in concession.
