Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital suddenly closes in Rockford

I’m not going to lie, when I first saw this post appear on my Facebook newsfeed this morning, I freaked out a bit…

I adopted two dogs from Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, and it broke my heart for a second to think that the sanctuary has closed for good, but I re-read that post. The shelter is still open and will remain so, but Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital is not.

Why did Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital in Rockford close?

WIFR reports that employees at Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital received a text message Tuesday morning (Aug. 2) saying they didn’t need to report to work because the hospital “has suspended its operations to datey”.

So what is the reason for the sudden closure of the clinic? Lack of veterinarians.

In 2020, Noah’s Ark Veterinary Hospital began renovating a building on N 4th Street in Rockford so it could expand its services further and begin to focus on more low-income spaying and spaying services as well as animal rescues, but some employees were unhappy with these changes. Two hospital vets recently resigned, leading to further layoffs.

Noah’s Ark Executive Director of Noah’s Ark, Stephanie Lauer, recently said WREX this “the quick stop was not what the organization had planned“, but if you don’t have vets, you can’t run a vet clinic.

What’s next for Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital and its patients?

At this point, the future of Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital in Rockford looks bleak, but Noah’s Ark board members say the hospital’s closure won’t be permanent. The organization will continue renovations at its new location on N 4th Street and use the time the hospital is closed to deal with staffing and service issues. They hope the new and improved clinic will be open by the end of the year according to WIFR.

Noah’s Ark board members also say patient care at the hospital is being taken care of and their medical records will be transferred to other Rockford-area veterinary clinics for the time being.
